Brainstorm
The cnc router could be build out of donated, scrapped, available, and cheap materials. Discarded printers or maybe scanners would be a free source of stepper motors, or even the whole linear slide. The router's frame could be made out of wood. Once we have working prototype we could start replacing the original frame components with plastic or metal components made by the prototype.
ToDo List
- Research
- Create the cnc dev team
- Find parts
- Prototype electronics
- Fabricate components
- Code Firmware
- assemble cnc router
- Code client code
Things to Scrounge
- Printers
- Scanners
- Dremels
- Wood
- Floppy Drives (apparently a good source of stepper motors)
- L293 (an often mentioned chip for driving stepper motors) HBridge
Benefits For the Club
- It would make future projects easier to finish.
- It could make quality parts for projects.
- The could could use the cnc router to make case mods. This could be a great fund raiser.
- Make PCBs easily, cheaply and quickly.
